Christian Maxwell's comprehensive plan to free 43 million Americans from the crushing weight of student loan debt — and prevent the next generation from falling into the same trap.
Cut Payments to 5% of Income
Cap monthly payments at 5% of discretionary income (down from 10%), and forgive remaining balances after 20 years of payments. No one should choose between their loan and groceries.
Forgive Loans Held 20+ Years
If you have been paying off student loans for over 20 years, your debt is forgiven — period. These borrowers have already paid back what they borrowed and then some.
12 On-Time Payments, Interest Erased
Make 12 consecutive on-time payments and the interest accrued that year is erased. Part of the interest you paid is credited back to your principal, so your balance stops growing and actually starts dropping.
